URGENT – WEATHER MESSAGE

HEAT INDEX VALUES NEAR TO ABOVE 100.

.A LARGE AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL REMAIN ACROSS THE EASTERN
UNITED STATES THROUGH FRIDAY. THIS HIGH PRESSURE WILL ALLOW
TEMPERATURES TO RISE INTO THE LOW TO MID 90S THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.
THE HOT TEMPERATURES WILL COMBINE WITH DEW POINTS IN THE LOW 70S
TO PRODUCE HEAT INDICES AROUND 100. IN ADDITION…OVERNIGHT LOWS
ARE FORECAST TO REMAIN ABOVE 70…WITH NIGHTTIME HEAT INDICES
ABOVE 75.

HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EDT FRIDAY

HEAT INDEX VALUES…UP TO 102 DUE TO TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER
90S…AND DEWPOINTS IN THE LOWER 70S.

TIMING…HEAT INDEX VALUES NEAR TO SLIGHTLY ABOVE 100 ARE
EXPECTED FOR THURSDAY AFTERNOON…AND AGAIN ON FRIDAY
AFTERNOON. NIGHTTIME HEAT INDICES ARE FORECAST TO STAY ABOVE
75.

* IMPACTS…HEAT STROKE… HEAT EXHAUSTION AND OTHER HEAT
RELATED ILLNESSES WILL BE POSSIBLE…ESPECIALLY IF YOU SPEND A
SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TIME OUTDOORS…OR ARE INVOLVED IN ANY
STRENUOUS OUTDOOR ACTIVITY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE… RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN
POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY
HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE
IS AN EMERGENCY…CALL 911.
